Geography GCSE Fieldwork
Year 10 Geography students complete their Geography Fieldwork in Malham!
On Thursday 27th our Year 10 Geography students completed their fieldwork in preparation for the GCSE Paper 3 they will sit at the end of Year 11. As part of the course, and to experience what it is like to study Geography beyond Park High School all students must complete two pieces of fieldwork; one physical and one human.
Following last year’s success both fieldwork studies were completed in Malham. Here, students completed a land use survey to assess the impact of tourism on the town. This included a walking tour and speaking to locals to determine whether Malham was primarily a tourist or resident location – students represented Park High School and the Geography department fantastically, so much so we have been invited back to the café for chips and cake again next year!
The physical fieldwork aspect included a river study, where the aim was to investigate how a river changes from its source to mouth. Students enjoyed wading through the river to measure its width, depth, velocity and load particle size at four different locations. Once more, students behaved impeccably to complete their work to a very high standard whilst ensuring their personal and group safety.
Now, the data collected will be analysed and presented in class to arrive at conclusions for the investigation titles.
Well done to all of our GCSE Geographers!
