Welcome to the Year 9 Core page

This page details the Core pathway for which your child has been chosen to ensure they thrive and succeed in their GCSE subjects. 

• The Core Pathway allows students the opportunity to choose another GCSE option at the end of Year 9 for study in Years 10 and 11 and they must also choose between Geography and History for further study.  This option must not be the same as the option they already made in Year 8.

• All students will continue to undertake a Religious Education GCSE qualification in Year 10.

• Vocational qualifications are equivalent to GCSE and viewed as such by Post-16 providers. These vocational qualifications are appropriate for all ability ranges and should not be perceived as a weaker qualification to traditional GCSE qualifications. These courses replicate how these qualifications are delivered post-16 and offer an opportunity to develop higher skill levels to be successful when students leave school.

   

Year 9 Option Next Steps:

• Check your email for communication sent on Wednesday 23rd April 2025 regarding Pathways.

• Watch the relevant videos below and make notes on which subjects are of the most interest.

• Direct questions to any of the relevant teachers in school to help answer questions

• Choose the subject that you think your child will enjoy, thrive and achieve in. 

• Encourage students to make decisions based upon their own interests and not around friendship groups.

• Complete the Microsoft Form that has been emailed to your child's school email address.

• The deadline for completion is Monday 12 May 2025.
