Staff Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

Staff learning and development and talent mapping@Park

"People are much more than employees; they are the backbone of the organisation. Park High school is committed to investing in creating and maintaining a positive work environment, promoting employee wellbeing, and fostering a culture of inclusion, engagement, growth and happiness”.

Our commitment to nurturing the growth of our students and future leaders goes hand in hand with our commitment to the people who make it possible. We work hard to foster a culture of everybody being lifelong learners and everybody being able to grow, progress and experience success-from children joining the school to the colleagues we mentor on career entry. We are a learning organisation, committed to the ongoing development of all our people.

As part of the Pennine Trust's commitment to the wider teaching profession, staff growth and talent development are integral to our Recruit, Retain, and Develop (RRD) strategyBy mapping talent and career aspirations for staff across all schools, we can direct them toward targeted opportunities within the school, across Trust and externally to ensure the development and retention of the highest calibre employees.

Our commitment as a learning organisation:

  • The school has mapped developmental opportunities and pathways to enhance performance management and career development.
  • We continually focus on talent identification and people leadership across the Trust. Termly, staff performance management discussions are captured, analysed and collated to map colleagues' aspirations, talents, and future career goals in both the short and long term.
  • We have a dedicated staff development suite to provide direction for self-study, alongside internal and external development opportunities to support growth, professional development, career progression and retention of talent within the organisation.

By fostering the growth and leadership of staff, we aim to develop the organisation where every employee continuously learns, grows and feels empowered to do the job well within the busy lives we lead.  Staff feel and celebrate success - ultimately contributing towards the success of the organisation and the young people we serve.

Working in partnership with the National Institute of Teaching, we fully align and share the vision of the NiOT:

“To nurture the talents of teachers and leaders at all stages of their careers so that they can provide children with the world class education they deserve”.

We encourage and celebrate staff involved with delivery of the “Golden Thread” of professional development from Initial Teacher Training through to development for system leaders. The benefits are multi-faceted- staff facilitators have benefitted by becoming the leader, the learner and the facilitator.

Supporting Initial Teacher Training (ITT)

“Teachers are made, not born”

Skilled teachers consistently evolve and grow, drawing on the guidance of expert colleagues and a well-structured foundation of essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours that define exceptional teaching. We are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of teachers and warmly welcome ITTs into our school community, providing them with invaluable experience, support, and mentorship from seasoned professionals across our organisation. To ensure the highest standard of development for new teachers, we carefully select and train mentors, equipping them to effectively guide and support those beginning their journey in the profession.

Early Career teachers (ECTs)

Teachers deserve exceptional support at every stage of their careers, especially during the early years following ITT when the learning curve is at its steepest. Our ECTs engage with the National Institute of Teaching’s Early Career Teacher programme, which provides flexible training and tailored support (again under the watchful eye of carefully selected and trained mentors) to set them up for success from the very beginning.

Specialisation

Beyond the initial years of teaching, we place a strong emphasis on the ongoing development of all teachers and school leaders. Through a multifaceted approach, we support staff in continually refining their expertise throughout their careers, ensuring that every child in every classroom benefits from the highest quality education and an exceptional school experience.
